For more than five years we have been following the online publishers market . Creating a simple website is no longer really a problem today.
But can we say the same thing about mobile applications? Is it possible to create a mobile application without knowing about programming?
When my wife decided to create one for her museum site , we took the opportunity to try some of the best online mobile app creation tools on the market. Companies offering this kind of service do not miss: we have identified more than thirty.
Mobile app creation tools in 100 seconds
There is application and enforcement
Most of the mobile application creators we tested have two types of applications:
An HTML5 application is a mobile version of your existing website, and is available exclusively for smartphone or tablet users.
But what will be of interest to most people is a native application that users can download from Apple App Store, Google Play Store (and possibly Windows Phone Store).
A native application will also allow you to send these small practical push messages that no one or almost anyone knows how to disable.
While you can create your own HTML5 application for around 8 to 20 € per month, designing a native application will not spare your wallet. For an app intended for the Apple, Android or Windows Phone ecosystems, most publishers will ask you to disburse every month about 35 €.
We discovered a young and promising market, with lots of new things to come. Here are our favorite online mobile app creators at the moment:
Good Barber – A pleasure for the eyes
This application editor with its original name comes from Corsica and impresses us with the aesthetics of its themes. Create native iOS and Android applications for 32 € per month. The editor displays a long list of applications created with its system.
We appreciate: beautiful models and very competitive prices for the creation of native applications, as well as the flexibility that this tool offers.
To improve : the tool does not have its own online shop function, but you can integrate Amazon, Etsy and Shopify.

Swiftic (formerly Como) – The Swiss Army Mobile Design Knife
This publisher, founded in Israel in 2010, claims the creation of more than one million applications worldwide, making it one of the major players in the application market. The tool offers a wide range of blocks to be assembled: loyalty card management, appointment scheduling, e-commerce, user reviews and event management. Most of the examples highlighted in the application gallery relate to restaurants, music groups and other events-organizing structures.
Swiftic has just introduced a new fee schedule, with a single price level and a monthly payment ($ 57), annual ($ 48) or biennial ($ 41), ie € 50, € 42, and 36 € approximately. Added to this is a bold six-month success guarantee, that is to say that Swiftic will offer you six months of free subscription if you do not get convincing results with your application.
We found seven different designs to combine with six styles of navigation. You can adapt colors, background images and icons with your own graphics.
We appreciate : the editor, very well made and easy to use. It is one of those that offer the greatest number of features. The designs are really a plus. A French version is available.
To be improved : their marketing. After your registration, you will receive promotional emails every day for almost a week …

Shoutem – The Apple of Mobile Application Publishers
Created in 2011, this application editor is a very licked product, which offers a lot of powerful options. For example, the location directory based on geolocation, which has proved particularly useful for our test project (application on museums).
Monetization elements, such as integration with Shopify and support for mobile ads, allow you to recover what you have spent on Shoutem. This tool is neither the most expensive nor the most affordable: the price range starts at $ 19.90 per month (Basic formula), or just under € 18. To be able to publish your application on apps Apple or Android, you will have to subscribe at least the Advanced offer to 49 $ (about 44 €).
We were particularly impressed by the interface, both playful and powerful, as well as by the design models.
We appreciate: designs, elements based on geolocation, simplicity of use and management of the transfer of images.
To be improved : honestly, not much, except that the subscription could of course be cheaper.

Appligo – Easy and fun to use
The company AppYourself was founded in 2011. Its Appligo solution allows to create applications for iOS, Android and Windows Phone as well as HTML5 applications. Three packages are offered: Basic (€ 9.90), Premium (€ 24.90) and Professional (€ 39.90 per month). Please note that a commissioning fee must be added to these last two subscriptions. You can test Appligo for free for an unlimited duration.
To be able to publish your application on one of the application shops, you will need at least the Premium subscription to 24,90 €. You can also have your application designed by AppYourself for 199 €.
The features offered include e-commerce, reservation of tables via Open Table and Resmio, photo galleries and, of course, usual news feeds.
We appreciate : first of all, the interface, which is well structured and very easy to use. But also the graphics options, and the assistance, which has shown responsiveness. Available in French.
To be improved : AppYourself is a German company and some untranslated menu items remain. This is not an enormous problem, but it will have to be solved.

Where are all the applications? According to the Statista site , there are approximately 2.8 million applications on the three main App Stores. On their own, Swiftic and AppMakr announce that a total of 3 million applications have been created with their tools. It can be deduced that a considerable number of applications never integrate the catalogs of the main app stores.
Mobile Roadie – The Creator of Business Applications
Mobile Roadie is one of the main players in the market and proudly displays the list of its customers: Disney, TED.org and Universal have created applications on this platform.
Based on the priced price range of $ 125 (CORE) to $ 667 (PRO) per month (between € 111 and € 594), Mobile Roadie clearly targets large companies. We particularly appreciated the choice of design, with beautiful models and many possibilities of personalization.
Some nice community features are also available, such as online discussions and a comment wall, which can be particularly useful for artists and bands. The musicians will also appreciate the smooth integration of the music player.
Advanced features, such as geo-targeting for your content, are also available. Given the wide range of features available, you will need more time to master this application editor than most other solutions.
We appreciate: the models, which are very elegant and include many options to customize the design. Overall, all the features proposed are extremely sophisticated. Available in French.
To be improved : tariffs, of course, that are not within the reach of small businesses. We also took a while to familiarize ourselves with the editor: the user interface would benefit from being more intuitive.

Mobincube – Applications for Everyone
Unlike Mobile Roadie, Mobincube is positioning itself as the creator of applications for all. Everyone can and should be able to create an app and make some money on the AdMob platform. But before you make money, you will have to spend it. Do not panic, Mobincube is very affordable: a free formula is available and the cheapest subscription with the cheapest is at 9,99 €. Surprisingly, all the formulas available allow you to publish your creation on one or more of the main application stores.
Mobincube, a company with Spanish roots, displays a “beta” label when you use the publisher. Indeed, this one makes a little “beta version”. We sometimes had to change the browser in order to use certain features. But what the publisher has to offer seems genuinely powerful. You can create complex page types, for example by using an SQLlite database to extract data from an external server. To be honest, we did not really understand how it worked, and with regard to ergonomics, the editor could definitely do better. However, no other publisher allows you to get a free real application. Paying subscriptions seem very affordable.
We appreciate: very competitive rates and great choice of models. Some features look rather innovative.
To be improved : some technical problems; Models may impose certain limitations.

AppMachine – The site that has potential
This name seems to have a profound meaning. AppMachine automates a lot of laborious processes. Enter your URL and the tool imports whatever it considers useful for your application. It can import your Twitter, Facebook and RSS feeds and even images if you wish. Rather original and useful!
This Dutch publisher is visually impressive without being overwhelming. We liked the idea of using Lego building blocks. This is one of the best online mobile application creation tools we’ve tested, and although the user interface is not always intuitive at first, we think this solution has the potential to become One of the major players in this market.
Two formulas are currently offered: the Plus offer costs 39 € and the Pro offer 59 € per month.
One appreciates: the powerful editor, a complete choice of blocks to combine, the availability of a French version.
To be improved : the user interface could be a little more logical and fast.
Appy Pie – A Feast of Features?
Based in India, Appy Pie also claims to be the fastest growing mobile application publisher in the world. Although it is difficult to verify the truth of this statement, it seems that the service is gaining popularity in some parts of the world.
Its free subscription, rather unique in its kind, can appeal to beginners. Note that this option includes only one mobile site. To get a native iOS or Android application, you’ll have to switch to a paid subscription, with prices being quite close to other mobile app publishers.
The main asset of Appy Pie: its unique features. The publisher actually offers options that its competitors do not have. For example, you can add purchases via the app, connect databases, transfer e-books, and even create your own dating app! Many of these features are often simple integrations, so be aware that it may be necessary to create accounts on other services to use them.
We appreciate: the interesting niche features, as well as the many integrations proposed and their ease of use.
To be improved : badly designed icons and models, which give applications an appearance of amateurism. The French version of the publisher and the website leaves something to be desired.
